Syngas Ammonia Removal Alternatives Evaluation
Process Engineering International (PROCESS) was contracted to execute a small consulting project for the ultimate client, who owns the design of a proprietary gasifier for processing Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and had previously designed an ammonia removal system utilizing sulfuric acid. PROCESS was asked to determine if an alternate, possibly less expensive design, could adequately remove the ammonia from the syngas stream. PROCESS reviewed several options with the client that included:
-
Carbon adsorption
-
A Brinks-type mist eliminator
-
A Claus-type oxidation unit.
PROCESS prepared a project report and conducted a teleconference with the ultimate client to discuss the options at the end of the project.
