Process Drawing Preparation For Calcium Carbonate Processing Facility
A U.S.-based process engineering company contracted Process Engineering International, LLC (PROCESS) to prepare as-built drawings for a southeast US facility of the ultimate client, a French multinational company that specializes in the production and processing of industrial minerals.
More specifically, a Chief Process Engineer from PROCESS traveled to the mine/minerals processing site for multiple weeks to view process operations in person and to sketch out “as built” Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for the production process. At the client’s request, these drawings did not contain all the relevant details that are typically on P&IDs but instead showed equipment, connectivity, measured line sizing, and critical instrumentation. PROCESS worked with the client’s drafting department to transform hand sketches into AutoCAD drawings. The AutoCAD drawings were then field checked by PROCESS to ensure accuracy.
The client used the drawings to prepare a heat and material balance for the production process in an effort to identify yield losses.
As an added challenge, the site work took place during the global pandemic, so all work was done using added personal protective equipment as well as social distancing.
