Petroleum Refinery Due Diligence Review
Process was subcontracted to provide a due diligence review of an operating refinery in Southeast Asia. The client is an international capital investment firm that was considering purchasing the refinery. As a part of this project, the following tasks were accomplished:
-
On-site technical review of refinery operations
-
Spot checking of refinery documentation
-
Preliminary process simulation of Crude Tower capacity
-
Identification of general concerns
-
Report generation and project summary.
A Chief Process Engineer from Process reviewed the process design documents (done by others), including the Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and miscellaneous equipment design information. A trip to the Southeast Asia operating facility was performed, multiple site personnel were interviewed, current operations were reviewed, and refinery units were inspected from a process engineering point of view. All units in the refinery were checked, including the following:
-
Crude Distillation Unit
-
Delayed Coker
-
Bitumen Plant
-
Solvent Distillation System
-
Electricity Generation Turbines
-
LPG Storage
-
Nitrogen Unit
-
Utilities
-
Unloading Jetties
-
Tankage
Process developed a report summarizing general perceptions of the refinery and potential future modifications that could result in higher throughput and/or profitability.
