Modular Naphtha Process Plant Cost Estimate Development

Modular Naphtha Process Plant Cost Estimate Development

The client, a modular design, fabrication, and construction company based in Canada, contracted Process Engineering International (PROCESS) to use “back of the envelope” calculations to generate a placeholder, Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) level cost estimate to be used as a part of their sales & marketing efforts for a new modular naphtha processing plant.  The new processing plant included naphtha splitter, naphtha hydrotreater, fixed bed platforming, and isomerization units.

First, PROCESS prepared a major equipment list based on typical configurations of the units expected to be a part of the naphtha reforming plant.  Equipment sizing was estimated from internal PROCESS data for similar units, available cost estimation software, and sizing factors where appropriate.  Finally, costs for each piece of equipment were estimated based upon: information contained in in-house equipment cost databases and cost estimating databases; scaling factors; and engineering assumptions.

A brief summary was provided to the client containing the equipment lists, corresponding estimated costs, and assumptions associated therewith.
